A resurgent Medvedev secured his first title for 882 days with a win over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The athlete, a ex- world number one, has endured a torrid year, achieving just one match at the Grand Slams and suffering a difficult moment at the US Open.

His varied form on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his serving in especial - led to him falling of the elite rankings and eventually separating with long-time mentor Gilles Cervara.

Currently collaborating with his coach and his other coach, Medvedev has gradually advanced in the past month - climaxing in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over challenger Moutet.

It is Medvedev's initial title following the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hard court since March of the previous year.

Success also indicates he has secured twenty-one championships at 21 different tournaments.

"It's the first time I have attended a tournament with my children at once, so to win a championship is particularly special," commented world number 14 Medvedev.

"This victory is in honour of my child Victoria, because the first title I got when my older daughter my daughter was born was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his past six title deciders, comprising in Halle in the past months.

The player's counter-punching strategy and frequent reactions on the tennis court had caused some to doubt if his ability to compete at the highest level was concluded.

Yet the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the last few weeks, making an effort to come to the net and play positively, backed up by an better serve.

He recovered from a break down in the first set against the difficult opponent, securing four of the concluding five points to go ahead.

The competitors swapped break points in the second set before Moutet, bidding for his initial tour championship, seized the initiative to create a final set.

He rescued 4 early-game chances in a competitive final set before the champion broke to fifteen to secure the win.

Suitably, the winner clinched the win with a point at the net, with Moutet unable to manage a shot after a lengthy match.
